Put 1/2 lb of sugar into a basin and cover with 3 pints of boiling water - mix and leave to stand.
Peel, core and cut in half the pears.
Plunge directly into cold water to keep the colour.
Fill the bottles / jars tightly with the pears, pour over the syrup until the full.
place the jars with lids in a moderate oven - assume you can put in a pan with water too.
and bring to just below boiling point - cook until the pears are tender - test with a skewer.

The pears are ready to use at any time
Ingredients
Dessert Pears,1/2 lb of Sugar,3 Pints of water
Method
The night before - make a syrup, by:Put 1/2 lb of sugar into a basin and cover with 3 pints of boiling water - mix and leave to stand.
Peel, core and cut in half the pears.

Fill the bottles / jars tightly with the pears, pour over the syrup until the full.
