Steak And Ale Pudding ( In A Slo-Cooker )

6 oz sr flour and a pinch of salt, 3oz shredded suet, 1 and a half lbs lean stewing steak cut into cubes, 1 onion finely chopped, 2 tbsp. chopped fresh herbs( parsley thyme or sage), 1 tbsp. plain flour,salt and freshly ground black pepper, 6 tbsp. brown ale, beef stock


(1) sift flour and salt into a large bowl and add the suet. stir in enough cold water to make a firm dough. cut off one quarter, roll into a ball and reserve, roll out the remaining dough
(2) lightly butter a 2 pint pudding basin, then line it with the large piece of dough, allowing the dough to overlap
the top of the basin slightly
(3) combine the steak, onion,herbs, plain flour and seasonings and spoon the mixture into the lined basin. Add the ale and enough stock or water to come 3/4 of the way up the filling
(4) roll out the reserved dough into a circle, slightly larger than the top of the basin, lay it on the top and seal well
by pressing the edges together
(5) cover securely with buttered foil and stand the basin in the slo-cooker. Pour round enough water to come half way up the basin.
cover and cook on HIGH for 6-8 hours
