Ham in something other than coke (in a slo-cooker)

With steamed veg and boiled potatoes.



Piece of unsmoked gammon about 1.25 k,2 carrots,2 parsnips,1 large onion,Elderflower pressé or Appletize,Black pepper,2 tsps cornflour


Soak ham for about 2 hours in water if necessary, chuck the water.
Chop onions.
Chop carrot and parsnips into pieces less than 1 inch.
Put vegetables in slo-cooker. and then place the ham on them skin side up.
Grind on black pepper.
Pour in elderflower or Appletize to come just over half way up ham.
Put lid on and cook on low for 5 - 6 hours.
Remove from the cooker and keep warm while you thicken some of the liquor with the cornflour for gravy.
