Cheats American style Pork 'n' Beans
Now this probably doesn't meet the criteria of any US cook, but it's damn fine and doggon dandy!
4 rashers smoked bacon
8 cooked Pork sausages
1 tin tomatoes with juice
1 tin baked beans
Liquid Smoke - couple of splashes (available on Ebay if you live in the middle of nowhere like me!)
1 tsp treacle
Cut the cooked sausages into bite size portions. The quality of the sausage is up to you, but this is fine with the cheap and cheerful sort.
Fry the bacon, or cook under a hot grill, until crisp. Then chop into small pieces.
Rinse the baked beans. Strange I know, but the sauce with them is far too sweet.
Fry the onion in a bit of oil until it caramelises.
Put the sliced sausages, bacon, onion, tomatoes, treacle, rinsed beans, liquid smoke in a pan, and gently bring up to a bubble, stirring to stop it catching on the bottom of the pan.
Serve with mashed potato or hash browns.
