Bhalek (tibetan fried stuffed bread)

Serve on its own or with curries soups stews etc



250g plain flour; ,1 tsp baking powder; ,1 cup water; ,1/2 tsp turmeric; ,1 green pepper finely chopped; ,1 onion finely chopped; ,oil; ,1/2 tsp salt; ,1/4 tsp black pepper


Sift the flour and baking powder into a bowl and add sufficient water to make a form dough. Knead for five minutes. Put into an oiled plastic bag and allow to rest for 5 mins.
Roll the dough into a thin circle (around 45cm).
Spread one half of the surface of the dough with a little oil and sprinkle the other ingredients over it. Roll the dough up, from that side, into a log shape. Curl the ends over to form a circular knot.
Heat 1 tbsl of oil in a frying pan (with lid) and fry the dough, covered, for 15 minutes each side, turning the dough every 5 mins.
