Black Forest Gateau Trifle
This is a great 'throw together' recipe when you need to make a yummy dessert in a hurry from bought ingredients. Goes down well at BBQs put you can 'posh' it up by making individual ones.
MethodMake chocolate custard by mixing some cocoa powder with a little milk to make a paste. Stir this into the gently heated custard and cook until the powdery taste has gone. Leave to cool. Meanwhile, slice the swiss roll and line the bottom of your bowl and around the edge so the cream swirl is showing. Pour in tinned cherries. You may want to keep back some of the syrup depending on how much there is in the tin. Pour over cooled custard and chill in fridge to firm slightly. Whip cream and spread over chocolate custard and cover with chocolate shavings.
