Line a large rectangular tin with baking parchment (the Mary Berry tray bake tin from Lakeland is perfect)
Melt the butter with the golden syrup and the sugar over a low heat. You need to stir this which is deeply boring but other wise it catches or boils or does other hideous things. If it does start to boil just take it off the heat and keep stirring. Eventually the sugar will disolve and it will look like melted toffee.
Stir in the condensed milk.
Stir the warm melted mixture into the oats ensuring they get a good coating. Reserve the pan for in a minute as the scrapings are delicious.
Tip the mixture into the prepared tin. Just spread it out. Don't ram it down or it will set like concrete.
Bake in preheated oven for about 20 minutes.
Cool, cut, consume.
Makes about 24 squares.
