Hot Spiced Wine ( In a slo-cooker )

The wine is now ready to serve and can be kept hot for up to 4 hours

 
 
 
 

Ingredients

2 oz soft light brown sugar,quarter of a pint of near boiling water, 2 small oranges ( unwaxed if possible ), 6 cloves, 1 stick cinnamon, half of a whole nutmeg, 1 and a half bottles of red wine( such as bordeaux), quarter of a pint of brandy

Method

(1) put the sugar into slo-cooker and pour on the near boiling water, stir until dissolved, then switch the cooker to high
(2) Rinse the oranges, then press the cloves into one and add it to the cooker with the cinnamon, nutmeg and wine. Half the remaining orange, slice and put to one side. put lid on cooker and cook on high for 1 hour then reduce to low for 3 hours.
(3) Stir the brandy into the spiced wine and add the orange slices, heat for a further 1 hour
(4) Remove the whole orange and the cinnamon stick.
