African American BBQ sauce - the real deal!

Great with ribs, chicken or just as a general accompanying sauce - be good with sausages as well.

 
 
 
 

Ingredients

Fry finely chopped onion and garlic till golden. Add vinegar (white will be ok just not malt) tom paste raw sugar black treacle 3 or 4 star anise (essential!) cayenne if you want a kick (personally I prefer a light tap to a kick) and gently simmer for 20 mins salt taste and adjust everything as necessary. If it's too thin then you've been too generous with the vinegar and/or too mean with the treacle. This is VERY good! (I can say that without being immodest as it's not my own invention).,Out-to-Lunch.,
