No matter whose dried fruit I buy I end up with a Christmas cake with stalks and grit in it. I have tried all the supermarket brands and all of them are the same - full of grit and stalks. This year I tried washing the fruit but after working for ages on it I still ended up with a cake with grit and stalks in it. Surely there must be a brand of fruit that is grit and stalk free? Or is there some way I can remove the stalks and grit other than picking it out one piece at a time?
