Kindle!!

Congrats Norr :) I am in love with my Kindle (still). We should start a thread about good FREE books for it - after all, after Christmas I think lots of us will be trying to spend as little as possible for as long as possible!

Kindle in Europe

I have used my 3G Kindle in France, Spain and Egypt to access my hotmail emails. Quite slow and you cannot open an attachments to an email but great for a quick check to see if you need to go to an internet cafe.Cx

eBay

If anybody gets this far on this long thread, try eBay for discs of thousands of books, many of them current. I have put details on the next, much shorter thread.

Kindle.

The vast majority of those discs are illegal, pirated material.

You can buy discs with Harry Potter one, yet, this has not actually been released anywhere as an ebook as yet, its coming later this year.

How can that be legal?

There are so many free books on amazon, I see no reason to cheat authors out of what is rightly theirs.

"I do so wish that the delia system would remember the last post read so you don't have to scroll through countless pages of posts :( All the other forum software packages do it as standard."

You do moan a lot about the site........

"Or maybe you were not talking about Gutenburg? There are quite a lot of pirated books available for download...just as there are pirated videos and audios."

Erm, no. I was clearly replying to the previous person who suggests buying dodgy discs of copyrighted books on Ebay..........

Lemain - our forum isn't run on a standard software package.

Isn't fit for purpose is rather insulting! The team work hard!

YOU don't like it, most of us are perfectly happy with it. It is very rude to just continually criticise.

As for if the forum is not as popular as it used to be, I doubt its down to the functionality, its because of couple of very tedious people who post actually!

If you have comments to make, you should make them directly to the team instead of continually moaning on here about it.

Of course I use other forums, do you really need to patronise everyone so much, ALL of the time?

Actually, one of the forums I use has the ability to take you directly to the last post, and the other two do not.

It is not up to you how this forum works. Deal with it, or go elsewhere!

Most of us are very happy with it, and happily use it instead of just continually moaning.

As for your implication that I am not a useful member of this forum, I could not care less what you think of me.

I've never seen you post anything interesting anyway.

"Maybe you should? I'm certainly disappointed when people think badly of me, as most people are."

Its only yourself and your little online sidekick that dislike me on here anyway, I can live with that............

software

Noreen -- Wouldn't it work better if it was run on a standard software package? With a standard package everyone would know how to drive it on first visit and it would work better...being updated constantly by large teams of specialists whose sole job is to write forums packages? Surely Delia Smith is about cooking, not writing software?

Lemain - our site is individual and we cannot run a 'standard software package' on it.

Delia Smith is about cooking and none of us, or Delia writes software.

It would be way too boring for me to go in to the ins and outs of how the site is run from a technical point of view.

End of the thread

Sorry, but it really isn't normal to do four clicks and a scroll to get to the end of a thread that is 150+ long. Some sites have over 1000 posts on a thread and the end is just one click away. And most threads have between 40 and 50 posts to a page.

Kindle.

So what?

It is what it is, deal with it, its really not a major problem is it...............

I don't think its "normal" for people to constantly moan about a web site they enjoy at no cost to themselves.

To suggest I work for Delia is just childish beyond all belief.

I personally believe the site is brilliant, its just two certain posters who have driven most people away!

You have also been asked time and time again to make comments about the site directly to the team. Yet you just ignore this simple request and bang on constantly about the same non issues.

Its tedious.
