"Afer reading the review from James

Ditto, but in reverse... I bought darling hubby one! He's not one for novels, but likes to dip in and out of obscure intellectual tomes. I know, Yawwnnnn! He absolutely loves it, as everything he could ever want is out there, and the more obscure and unpopular the book, the cheaper the download. Usually free, or literally pence. Result!

Kindle.

I was given a kindle for Christmas and felt it would come into it's own when we went away. Well, I have just come back from nearly 3 weeks in the Orkney. I normally take 8 plus paperbacks with me. This year I read 8 books from my kindle which went perfectly into my handbag which was brilliant. I have 80 books on it, so had lots of choice of what I wanted or felt like reading next. So as far as I am concerned it's a result.

Kindle

Sorry to be so late in joining this thread, but Steve has wanted to buy me a Kindle for a while now. He works late and I wake up early so a backlit Kindle would be ideal for me as I could read while he sleeps without disturbing him. Does anyone know if there is a back lit Kindle or if they are planning on bringing one out?

FAO Saffy.

Saffy, my kindle has a small light which pulls out of the top right hand corner of the case which was purchased with the kindle. It's handy to read without putting on the bedside light if you can't sleep during the night. It certainly wouldn't disturb anyone lying next to you. I hope this is of help.

Kindle.

I don't think there will be a back lit Kindle, Saffy. The lack of the back light is sort of the point to the whole thing. No eye strain. Amazon are going to be doing a table computer soon though, and that will have a kindle application.

Yes, as Grannie Cool says, there is a case with an LED light available for the kindle. You don't need batteries for it, it runs from the kindle battery, connecting by the metal hooks which hold it in place.

Kindle

ooooo Nor - its fab.....

I am loving it almost as much as my lap top....and i am such a techno phob...

I have got.... most are free books i hasten to add.

this will make me sound dead educated...

tess of the derbs,
the scarlet letter,
lady chatterly,
cranford,

and now the real me - the trashy side

hollywood scandals,
the one you love,
falling star,
fools rush in,
hollywood scandals,

Nor you got to get yourself one.

They even have on freebie - what katy did series - going back to the thread about childhood reading!! can you believe that.

I am even thinking of down loading the fairy tales of the brothers grimm - but i thought that a bit sad, lol.

kindle-mania

I bought mine after reading stuff on here - had it for a couple of months - fab!!!! I read loads (travel on trains for work a lot), & have thus far mainly downloaded free or very cheap books (loads of choice)- but also a phrase book for use when in Norway! I had read other peoples comments about typo's & errors, but haven't found them to be that widespread or that irritating.
I'm a real convert - the only issue I had in the first couple of days was that the kindle didn't like the speed my wireless router was set at, so I had to get my computer chap to come & sort (the router) out. In the meantime, the amazon kindle help people talked me through loading books using the computer cable instead - they were really brilliant & didn't make me feel daft.
Hubby thinks it is an abomination, but both brother & mother now also have kindles - & a colleague has bought one for her Mum after she'd seen mine. E-book revolution...!

Happy Birthday Kindle post...

Well.... happy belated birthday actually. It is just over a year since James posted this up.

And I still haven't got one yet!

got a kindle yet????

well nor - shame on you. You really must get one.

On the strength of getting a few freebies and cheap books - i have nearly sorted my christmas pressie list out.

I have only just put my kindy down to have a mooch over here - as one of the books is italian based (well iti family living in texas) and the author keeps talking about italian meals - and i had to do some research into a particularly scrummy sounding dish - chick piccante - but a google search didn;t say when they book does!!!!

Sounds like Santa was generous this year!

Maybe you should start a new Kindle thread, Nor.
It takes ages to scroll down to the end of this one!!!
