Gosh Tompeters - how extremely patronising you are !

Consumers are pretty savvy these days you know. As to this poll you refer to I really find it hard to believe. BOGOF deals are great in many ways, as others have said. Long may they continue !

Meat

No offence given or taken, I hope.

Have to say I felt a bit smug in the butcher's shop this morning, even though it was packed; presumably with people who are questioning their habit of buying supermarket meat.

Butcher's meat is better and cheaper, and now I'll add you'll get the species you want!

Butchers

I was going to say the same thing WC, maybe this will bring back proper butchers onto the High Street again. I've only had one pre-prepared meal and it was the one of the worst things I've eaten. I had not been aiming for it, it was the situation that provoked it!

Butchers

Sadly, once they have gone, they have gone for ever.

Horsemeat

I would not choose to eat horsemeat and would not purchase anything which claimed it had horsemeat in it. We have a right to know what we are eating. It is totally wrong to label something 'Beef' when it is horsemeat. I do buy ready meals sometimes and have always trusted the supermarkets to sell food of a proper standard. I, luckily, have not bought any beef ready meals because I am a real fusspot about fatty mince (a hangover from horrible school dinners) so I like lean mince and then I strain all the fat off. I am even more fussy about fatty horse mince!

Beef v horse

And the vegetarians are also at risk I hear.

Nut loaves have been withdrawn from sale because they have been found to contain horsechestnuts ....

Horsemeat etc.

Very droll Queen of Puds!
The whole issue is misrepresentation - here in France horsemeat is sold in my local supermarket - I have a choice - I don't buy it - but to be told that something is beef and it turns out to be horsemeat is totally unacceptable. I hope the whole issue is handled well and people will be able to have faith in the products they buy in the future.
