I've done this before

Hi Yummy - thanks for your reply and glad to hear you are happy to be back in UK.

We are all OK here in our little bit of South Australia - so far that is. Thanks for asking. We still have a lot of a long hot summer to go though, so fingers crossed.
Last year we moved down south of Adelaide, near the coast, and although not that far away we have cooler weather:)
Sometimes it's 10C cooler down here, which is great!

Coffee Break

"Anastasia - if enough people want it changed, as I said in my earlier post we will change it.

Honey - we changed it when we relaunched the site. Nothing was 'wrong' with Coffee Break, we just wanted to make the forums different "

Personally I don't think you should Change the name but add an extra forum called Coffee Break.

That way those who want to 'chat' can do so, and those who want to find recipes, advice etc. don't have to trawl through all the chatty stuff. Can be annoying if you're looking for cookery advice!!

I agree with your suggestion SonyaK if it can be done. What do you think Noreen? I don't belong to Facebook or Twitter but believe quite a few "Deliaites" do, so perhaps they prefer to be on there for chatting rather than this Forum. I also notice on this web site there is "Find us on Facebook" and "Follow us on Twitter" is this one and the same thing? or only applies to the Delia site?

LOL. The bit that "I've done before" was coming on to Delia when I was under the affluence of inkahol; but I failed to make that point!

Thank you for the birthday wishes and for the response to my alcohol induced gushing!

I have to be honest and say that I (and others) didn't drift away because of the social networking sites. Yes they certainly made it easier to share photos and to chat, but as Honey pointed out some people were rather judgmental and outspoken. At times it felt as though there was a degree of bullying on here. I didn't like it so upped and left.

The Delia site is still my first port of call for any cooking query or if I'm looking for a new recipe, but I have to say that Jamie's 15 minute meals have really inspired me lately. I'm back on my diet (having given up smoking and gaining 1/2 stone) and am also enjoying Nadia Sawalah's Greedy Girl's cookbook. Some very tasty recipes there.

I guessed that was what you meant, Saffy:)
Just thought I'd use it as a chance to discuss why this site is so quiet these days!

When some people were banned I remember others saying 'that's great, now we can chat again' but it never happened!! The supposed 'bullies' left but it didn't pick up. Not sure what would make it a lively site again.

What is strange Sonya...

If the site is no longer as it was, then why hasn't another community been built like before? Why haven't those that still contribute on here regularly encouraged a similar chat forum for the visitors to Delia Online? There has always been lots of lurkers that have in the past been encouraged/enticed to join in the chat because they could see we were similar, like-minded people... Have they gone? Why hasn't a new community blossomed? Why is it so quiet on here?

For what it's worth, I think it's because people really don't know WHERE they can make idle chat that is just friendly exchanging of views. Or even if it's allowed? People want to know that it's okay to talk about what they've been doing this weekend, or where they're going for their holidays, or what colour/make their next car will be, or a funny situation that makes us laugh. All this may sound mundane to some, others might like to just chat. Often it's the 'other bits' that draw people together... give people an identity and so they become friends and have a laugh and a bit of fun. After all, laughter is the best form of medicine. I'm not suggesting jokes as I think we all get those via e-mails... I mean just every day situations you find amusing.

I really do think that it's a good idea to make a new forum called Coffee Break (don't remove anything) and see if that will liven things up for people.

I also think it's absolutely essential that all newbies are welcomed and when there was a thread running that welcomed the newcomers, it did seem to help people feel part of the 'gang'. They shouldn't have to come in via the back door.

Well, that's 3 votes for Adding a 'Coffee Break' without removing anything else.

Worth a try, Noreen?

I'll make that 4 votes for 'coffee break' to be re-instated. The gardening and books sections receive very few posts, chances are that those topics were discussed in 'coffee break'in the past.

I've done this before.

We don't need "coffee break" AND "What's cooking". That will only serve to dilute the limited chat even further.

Coffee Break for me.

Well I feel we do need Coffee Break.
I imagine that if that heading returns so will the banter.
I used to love reading what people had been up to , the mishaps that happened to others , the moments that filled other posters with pure joy, the food that people loathe , & on & on , there was always something that caught my eye.
Honey is right in everything her last post says .
The posts that we used to enjoy we're not mundane to a large percentage of us, how nice it was to check in every day to see if a new child or Grandchild had been born , to even celebrate with a poster when they got a new pet, almost all subjects were good to follow , if one was mundane in my opinion then I did not bother to reply.
We got to know each other , I found it fun.

So , Coffee Break gets my vote .

New thread section

I'm 100% with James. If Coffee Break is reinstated, what's the point of continuing with What's Cooking? Both are not required and, as James rightly points out, to attempt to maintain two would merely dilute the already limited chat traffic.

What's Cooking

'What's Cooking' could be for people to discuss what they're cooking or what they would like to cook in the future or anything pertinent to cooking or food related.

'Coffee Break' could be for anything they want to chat about... not food related. ;o) Even if it's to say it's snowing here.

Then, people who only use Delia Online for purely foody things needn't even go onto Coffee Break and wouldn't have to wade their way through the chatty threads.

Seems fair to me.

Forum Topics

I think that "What's Cooking" and "Ingredients" could be combined if Coffee Break returns.

Coffee Break

Good thinking, Essex Girl. Makes much more sense than adding new thread options to an already overcrowded list.

Coffee Break

To clarify, I meant the above IF Coffee Break is reinstated. We really do have more than sufficient forum areas already. I can't honestly believe that chat is being restricted by the titles of any or all of these multiple existing areas anyway!
