will my tomatoes ripen?

We know many of you are keen on gardening, so here's your latest plot: dug over, weed free and ready to sow the seeds of new ideas...

"I agree with expat, doesn;t sound too good."

No, it doesn't. Sam from Worthing writes a whole lot of sense above - the only thing that seems to be left out is that you shouldn't eat that first crop of potatoes: they clean the ground very well, but if there are any bad-for-you metals in there, like lead, mercury, cadmium etc, these get concentrated in the spuds too.

I've always been told that you should throw the first lot out, not even compost them, as that way you just recycle the bad stuff back into your own ground.

"Our planet has become colder every year for the last 10 years and the North Polar ice cap has increased it's minimum size each year since 2007. Don't trust me, look it up."

I don't trust you - not on this topic anyway!!
Where do you suggest I look that up?
A Climate change Sceptic's site I presume?

For Chazzer - climate change

"Ice extent for September 2010 was the third lowest in the satellite record for the month, behind 2007 (lowest) and 2008 (second lowest). The linear rate of decline of September ice extent over the period 1979 to 2010 is now 81,400 square kilometers (31,400 square miles) per year, or 11.5% per decade relative to the 1979 to 2000 average. Sea ice extent at the end of the melt season is shaped by conditions in the atmosphere and ocean, as well as the condition of the ice cover itself."

will my tomatoes ripen?

Hi SoniaK, thanks for the research. However

I wrote this: "... the North Polar ice cap has increased it's minimum size each year since 2007 ..."

And you wrote this: "... Ice extent for September 2010 was the third lowest in the satellite record for the month, behind 2007 (lowest) and 2008 (second lowest)."

Are you not agreeing with me?

I'm not a Climate Change skeptic myself, the climate changes, but I'm highly skeptical about the influence the Human race has had on temperature. I'm completely convinced that we made a shocking change to the ozone layer, but having spotted the problem we seem to have cleaned up and the ozone hole's getting smaller by the year as well.

I'm a bit pressed for time but if I can I'll try to get some figures on average global yearly temperatures and let you have the source.

PS thanks for welcoming me back on the other thread :)

"I wrote this: "... the North Polar ice cap has increased it's minimum size each year since 2007 ..."

And you wrote this: "... Ice extent for September 2010 was the third lowest in the satellite record for the month, behind 2007 (lowest) and 2008 (second lowest)."

Are you not agreeing with me?"

It's the next part of my quote that disagrees.

"The linear rate of decline of September ice extent over the period 1979 to 2010 is now 81,400 square kilometers (31,400 square miles) per year, or 11.5% per decade relative to the 1979 to 2000 average."

Sounds like a decrease to me!!
