How did you meet your other half?

Can I tell you about how my cousin better her other half? Gonna tell ya anyway.
In the late 50s, my cousin (a window dresser) was flown up to Edinburgh to dress a couple of windows with the theme being The Edinburgh Festival. She returned by train and got chatting to a young man. He asked her for her phone number at the end of the journey. It turned out he was a Military Policeman and was tracking her as a suspected army deserter. They had a long and happy marriage.

How we met

1970, I was a very naive 16 year old starting my first job in a well known bank. He was a clerk of 23 in the same department. I was in awe of him and was even brave enough to send him a Valentines card, unsigned of course! He showed no signs of interest, so i gave up on him and married someone else. Our career paths, within the bank, crossed for years and I ended up his assistant 20 years later. My marriage of 18 years had broken down and he lent a shoulder to cry on. We finally got together in 1990, 20 years after we first met and have now been married 12 years. He had never married and jokes that he'd been waiting for me all that time!

How did you meet your other half?

Well there I was, sat in my office, when an extremely tall young chap (6 ft 7 inches) burst through the door. Fresh out of university, he’d just started in the Senior Design department that day and was handing me his green card. Well he’s different I thought! Wonder what it would be like to have a date with someone so tall? I’d need a biscuit tin thought I.

About a month later ( ;o) after making myself visible whenever I could) he asked me out on our first date (a man chases a girl, until she catches him). Two hours drive up the M6 to the Lake District (stopping off at Oulton Park to watch some motor racing on the way), closed down his mother and father’s caravan for the winter, played his guitar to me, we then went for a meal in a near by pub and drove home again… all in half a day!! I thought, now this beats the back row of the cinema on a Saturday night! That will be 45 years ago now this October. We were engaged two years later and married the following year.

By the way, I didn’t need the biscuit tin… my parent’s front door step was perfect!

We met on the day Prince Charles married Lady Diana. We had a street party and the pubs were serving late so we went to the pub and there he was .

How did you meet your OH?

GREAT THREAD! I met my husband after university - he interviewed me and gave me my first job. We were both in relationships but I always had a massive crush on him. We did a couple of daft things like kissing after the Christmas party, I worked for him for about a year and then moved on. We always stayed in touch, meeting up once or twice a year for a chat. Six years later, the time was right and we got together. He was very adamant he didn't want to get married but it was very important to me. We struggled with this for quite a time and in the end I applied for a six month placement overseas to give us both time to work out what we really wanted. He proposed just before I left, in a bit of a panic I feel :-) but we've just celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary. He freely admits he would probably never have proposed left to his own devices but he is jolly happy he did! We have the most gorgeous 5 year old son and have just moved house to somewhere I think will be our 'forever'home - or at least until junior leaves home! I am very blessed .

How did you meet your other half?

I met my first OH at work and we were married for 15 years when we separated (but didn't get divorced for another 5 years.) I met current OH (at my nephew's 21st birthday party. We've been together now for 30 years and married (next month) for 14 of them. We keep telling everyone that we had to make sure we were right for each other!

Other Half

At 17, I had the choice to return to College for a further year or start work....I applied for 2 office jobs & was offered both. I took the better paid of the two & ended up as my OH's Secretary. A year later we moved in together & 4 years after that, got married. We celebrate 32 years of marriage this year & have a beautiful daughter who is the best daughter in the world!!
GQ congrats on the birth of your grandchild..... :) xx
