Things That Annoy Me

Cold callers.

People who, you know, say "like" before they tell you something.

People who, like, say "You know"

Things That Annoy You

People who put their feet on train seats.
Chewing gum - both the idea of it & the mess it makes.
People who eat with their mouths open - disgusting.
People with no table manners in general.
Other people's snotty nosed kids who behave badly & aren't controlled (mine wouldn't have dared!)
Taxi drivers who are bigots & feel the need to share their views with me at length.
And hot dogs, because they are just gross.

I also hate it when people put their feet up on seats in trains. I long to tell them that someone else has to sit there after their dirty shoes have been on it, but I don't dare.

I also cannot bear the current trend for turning nouns into verbs. For instance 'he should medal at these games', instead of 'he should win a medal at these games'.

Nouns into verbs

There was an interesting piece on the radio about 'to medal' and 'to podium' (!!).

Do you ever use 'to telephone'?
There are many other examples that are now quite accepted, but I agree with you, 'to medal' is ugly.

Nouns into verbs

You are right, of course, Welsh Cookie. I did not think of 'to telephone' which we use as a matter of course. I suppose language evolves. 'To medal' sounds too much like 'to meddle' and really grates on me.
