Weekly meal plan

Oh dear! You have all put me to shame. We seem to go from day to day deciding what to eat, wish I was a bit more organised than the majority here!

Weekly menus

Don't worry Noreen, I or both of us decide on what to eat day to day. Even then it can change from, say, a casserole to a pasta dish depending on how we feel or weather or circumstances.

menu no-plans

Like Noreen, I go from day-to-day depending on what I feel like; also, what looks good when shopping. Shops aren't near us so I keep a lot of meat and fish in freezer.

menu no-plans

I'm more like Noreen and others on this page! We decide what to eat - and who is to cook - from day to day and as we feel. I occasionally plan in advance but OH never does!
Seems to work OK and we waste very little - often eat leftovers as I tend to cook enough for 2 meals at a time. Then have meals made from the bits that still need cooking at the end of the week!!

Meal plans

I too try to plan at least for 5 days when I do my weekly shop and have done for many years. I try to get sell by dates that are as long as possible and use frozen foods as well. I shop for 5 meals but we can have them on any night. Plans have a habit of changing though and I try not to waste things but occasionally do. I tend to buy food for the weekend at the weekend.

weekly menu

I choose what to eat from day to day and it depends on what I've got and the weather. Somettimes when shopping I see a bargain and buy that. Ido my main shop fortnightly then go into town as and when I need fresh food. I very rarely waste anything so some days the menu is made up of things that need to be used up.
I do look through cookery books and magazines for inspiration and jot things down, or if I fancy something then I will write that down to do next day, and when my Good Food mag arrives I usually tear out recipes and have something from that during the month, and I usually have a fish dish at least once a week.
Hubby never cooks or chooses. If it was up to him it would be steak and chips every night!

weekly menu

yes, I plan a weekly menu and then write shopping lists for farm shop, market and supermkt.we eat seasonally and experiment with at least 1 new recipe each week.I love using leftovers so often cook a little extra either for next day's packed lunch /or another supper.

Do you plan your weekly menu?

I always used to and would write my shopping list based on the menu, but the girls are often out for dinner or will bring B'F's home unexpectedly. Very often it will get to 5pm and I still don't know who's in for dinner :o( Regularly I can't be bothered to cook if it's only me in and will make do with a sarnie or an omelette.

This thread has got me a bit more organised. I've written a menu plan for the next two weeks and plan to stick to it. Getting stuff out of the freezer the night before means that I now HAVE to cook what is on the menu and deals with the "oh can't we have something else instead" when the night's offerings are discussed.

Thanks Foodie. I've been sticking to my menu plan for the last week and meal times are now a lot easier - the girls have accepted that what is on the menu is what they are getting so one less stress has been eradicated :o)

Saffy - "...the girls are often out for dinner or will bring B'F's home unexpectedly..."

What's a B'F? Is it a takeaway, or leftovers, or some sort of a surprise?

I've been trying, but I just can't guess.

Aah. So "surprise" was probably closest.

Thank you, Expat B
