WILD GARLIC LEAVES

Hi Francisca
I have just come across your information on where you we were able to get wild garlic leaves. I Know it was almost a year that you posted your comment on line, but was wondering what park in Cardiff do you find these leaves too please.
I know Cardiff very well and would appreciate to know what park you found them in.

Many thanks

Ty Dal

Wild garlic leaves

I've got wild garlic growing in a large pot at the moment. I'm going to plant out some of the bulbs in a patch in the garden where Bluebells are in flower so hope they will increase. I'm not a great lover of garlic but quite like it in small doses!

Wild garlic in Cardiff

Hi Ty,

It is quite a coincidence but right now I am living in Cardiff and not long ago I found wild garlic in one of the parks, I think Roath Park somewhere around the lake. Where I found a lot last year was in that park where you go down to the pier in Penarth. There I saw loads and actually tasted more garlicky than the one I tasted now. I tried to take a bag with seeds which I bought in a garden centre back to France but nothing grew, maybe it was already getting too hot for the wild garlic which needs shade? It is a great taste but I never ate it in salads, just right from the plant! Good luck...... You should still find it now as the weather is still quite fresh. In that park in Penarth you find it in huge patches, easy to find! Francisca

Wild garlic

It seems to like damp, shady places, so up here South Yorks/Derbyshire Peaks it often grows in profusion along river banks - currently starting to flower, all along the river from Froggatt, Calver etc (especially by the weir if anyone knows the area), & also in Oughtibridge along the River Don.

wild garlic leaves

got it growing in masses in my garden. can't get rid of the stuff - mind you it does keep the cats at bay for the time being.

there seems to be a lot of it around where i live, even along the grass verges, on busy roads - which the council haven't cut in 2 months, but when the grass does get mowed, by golly you know where the wild garlic is!

Wild chives

I had quite a bit of wild chives in my garden in France, either wild or just chives that spread outside of the vegetable patch, I don't know but not so much that would leave a smell when the grass was mowed.

Wild garlic

Wouldn't it be lovely if the council didn't mow the verges this year until at least the end of June. Then for once it would give the lovely wild flowers time to seed.

I keep hoping that council cut-backs mean they can't send the mowers out so early this year. I saw some lovely orchids flowering on a verge today, as well as loads and loads of garlic!
