Flora help

James, a letter would get a response but the important thing to remember is not just address it to the company but to a named person and not 'for the attention of ...' either. First line of address on the letter and the envelope is Mr/Mrs whoever. That then makes it personal.

Never use any marg for baking. I only use unsalted butter now but used to use half Cookeen and half butter with good results.

Pastry

I make my pastry in my Kenwood and use half butter and half lard with very good results. But we don't eat pastry very often and so I don't think it's harmful. Apparently we all need some fat in our bodies and certainly not worried about making pastry occasionally.

what happened to flora

If flora was made again I don't think I would go back to using it. For me, pastry made with butter and lard is far nicer, and lard only cost about 40p.

Flora

This thread is now over a year old. It is unlikely Flora will bring back the product now. Save your energy for something important.

White Flora

I really miss White Flora and have been unable to find a substitute until recently. I had tried Cookeen, Trex and Stork and was disappointed with the result.

In the past I had used half White Flora to half a combination of buttery margarine and butter. 1/2 White Flora, 1/4 Flora Buttery, 1/4 unsalted butter, egg yolk and water to bind. This made excellent pastry.

Tried Sainsbury's baking block and it was much better than the other fats that I had tried. I use 1/2 baking block to 1/2 unsalted butter and added an egg yolk. This is the best pastry yet and the baking block is a good substitute.

As I am using some butter for flavour I don't want to use lard as well.

Tried Jus Roll shortcrust also but it was dreadful and the pastry shrank during cooking.

There was no shrinkage using the baking block.

White Flora

See my recent post. I had gone along the same lines as you and recently saw Sainsbury's baking Block in the store. I did not hold out much hope but it was better than the other substitutes.

I would still like to use White Flora but the baking block is a lot better than anything else I have tried.

Flora White

This is the first I've seen of this. Had not even heard of this product before, but it sounds good. I see the petition is now closed. Did they ever bring this product back? Always looking to find something vegan to bake with that has good results...
