Season and Shake

The family advertising Colman's Season and Shake appear to be enjoying the meal and I must admit it looks tasty. Has anyone on here tried it?

Oooops!

Looks as if I've got my adverts. mixed up. The one I was really thinking of was Maggi So Juicy. Any thoughts on either of them.

Season & Shake

Hi Dottie,
I have only just seen this post so apols for delay! I have tried the paprika season and shake and I absoloutely loved it. It was so easy. I used chunks of chicken breast rather than joints, you just mix it with the powder in the sachet, put it in the bag provided, seal and cook. It turns out very juicy and very very tasty! I'm going to try the mediterranean (sp) one next and add peppers, onions and courgette in with the chicken and cook it all together. I think the "So Juicy" one is the same principle. Highly recommended! xx

Many thanks Champagne Queen for your response. I will definitely give it a go after reading your comments. I didn't try very hard but haven't found it in Waitrose yet but believe Tesco stock it so will check it out on their web site. Dottie

Season & Shake

Morning Dottie,

I tried the S&S Rustic Chicken, and it was lovely, I added onions too, which wasn't stated in the recipe and cooked it for an hour, although it states 45mins. The reason for this was I used skinless chicken thighs and wanted to make sure they were cooked through to the bone. Even fussy OH enjoyed it !!

I also have the Mediterranean Chicken to try so will let you know how that turns out.

It's a great concept as, once it is cooked, you just tip it out into the dish you placed the bag in, so no baked on mess and the dish is already piping hot to put straight on the table.

Must get my sister to send me some more :)

Hi all, on your recommendation I've bought the Med. version from Morrisons and going to try it out on some friends next Sunday lunch. Plenty of courgettes growing well so will use more of these than stated in the recipe. foxy x

S&S Med Version

"Hi all, on your recommendation I've bought the Med. version from Morrisons and going to try it out on some friends next Sunday lunch. Plenty of courgettes growing well so will use more of these than stated in the recipe. foxy x"

Hi there, I used my packet last week, and it was lovely, very tasty. Plenty of sauce as well, I served it with pasta shapes, not sure what they were called, but looked like someone had bitten into them....!! Despite that it was really lovely :)

Oh, I put a small quartered onion in and also another clove of garlic, sliced.

Season & Shake, just to add..

Foxy, I meant to add that to my mind, although the packet says serves 4, I would only make two servings from one packet. I had half a packet to myself served with the pasta and froze the other half as Hubby isn't too keen on the Med flavours.

So unless your guests have only small appetites I think perhaps use two packs to be on the safe side,

Season and Shake.

Its funny, Yummy. As you know, I have what is considered by most to be a tiny appetite, but when anything says "serves 4" it never does, even if it were four people like me!!!!

Im sure that most of us over cater if having people over, i'd be mortified to not have enough and people leave my place whilst still hungry!

I still haven't been able to find the product. Tried our local Tesco but they didn't stock it, probably only available at the larger stores. Don't have a local Morrisons so will have to wait until I go shopping further afield. Will bear in mind your thoughts on portions.

Season and Shake - Dottie

just use Ball's method, or look on the schwartz web site - they list the ingredients, and use half tsp of each, and put in a roasting bag - from all supermarkets, put in your cubed meat or meat joints, shake and put in pyrex oven proof dish and bake you will find it will be a lot cheaper in the long run - and the principal is the same, making your own seasoning - you can add more of your favourite or less or your yucky flavours, and use 1 tsp rather than half if catering for more people.

You are looking in the right section of supermarket - as even my little rubbishy teeny tiny co-op has them, in the same aisle as the schwartz and colman packet mixes of bread sauce, parsley sauce, chicken casserole stuff etc.

Season and Shake - Dottie

of course i meant the Colmans website - rather than Schwartz web site.

It does tell you what herbs/spices are included in the mix.

In the interest of research....

I picked up a couple of packets of Season and Shake today in Tesco (2 for £1) so going to try the rustic chicken tonight. Will let you know what we think after it's been consumed.

The jury is out..

Wasn't horrible but I wasn't overly-impressed either. The chicken certainly was moist but next time I'd do the veg separately (which kind of defeats the object) because I thought the veg (potatoes and carrots anyway) could have done with about another 20 minutes by which time I think the chicken would have been overcooked. Nice flavour but nothing that couldn't be replicated as Sam has already mentioned. Would I buy again - hmnn, that's where the jury is out but on balance, I think no. I will use the other packet I got (can't waste it) but no, I won't be rushing out to buy again.
