Tompeters......

I think you have been with us long enough now to get an Avatar !!! You've been too long in the shadows of the invisible man. If you can't manage to do it I am sure that Nor will sort you out with an appropriate one of your choosing, just as she has done for Thistledo.

That goes for all posters with the "greyman" (or should that be blueman)avatar.

Tompeters - done!

Done, and certainly not blue or grey! A pack of blue Smarties to the first person who recognises this slightly well-known work of art (I hesitate to call it a painting!)

Clues: It has a connection with food. While not a well-known piece of art, to the general public, it is displayed in an internationally-respected gallery and was accepted by HMRC on behalf of the nation in lieu of death duties.

It is a bit quirky, tho' ;)

Sorry gave you some mis-information...while it is in a gallery it is apparently not on display at this time. Shame.

I've never met Delia's OH :) I'll leave it open to guesses - or the knowledgeable - until after the weekend. It's quite an interesting work, actually and would be recognised by an art grad. I think. I wouldn't have it on my wall - unless I owned it in which case I'd sell it!

If you could actually "see" it may be a little easier, but it is osoo small.....could be Tracy Emin, or David Hockney.....who knows !! tr&"

Well done Maggie!!

You won the Smarties! Yes, the Hansome Pork Butcher http://www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/picabia-the-handsome-pork-butcher-t07108

I've always thought it a fascinating work. To be honest, I think Picabia was being plain sarcastic. It all started around the time Picasso went wobbly. The wobble is very clear in the Picasso museum in Barcelona. I believe he was ill (there are original letters to that effect in the museum) and that was the start of the wobble. He never got completely better ;) You'll see that Picabia re-worked his 'work of art' ending up with combs in the hair....and the paints were house-paint, not oils (so very liberating so say the art lobby). The last laugh was on the HMRC :))

Now that truly is a piece of terrible art imho!
