Flora help

Please help I am down to my last 30grms of White Flora and can't buy it anywhere I went on to the helpline and guess what the reason they have discontinued it is because more people are buying ready made pastry. Trex is awful it has a smell which flora never had and is a lot heavier. What else can I use?

Flora help

I use trex - which you don't like you may be lucky and still be able to find flora in sainsburys - i managed to get 2 tubs about a month ago - its like gold dust - had no idea it had been dicontinued.

you could go down the all butter route - but maybe only once in a while (yummy).

Have you tried Cookeen? I use that very successfully for pastry.

I had trouble finding this months ago so I tried cookeen, I've used it a few times and my pastry has been ok.

You could try Crisco all vegetable shortening, available on Amazon for £3.99 per kilo

bring back white flora

Nothing I have tried makes pastry like White flora. Butter and margarine make it hard, lard has a vile flavour, cookeen and trex make it tough and greasy. It seems as if lots of people used it so why don't you all write to Unilever to ask them to bring it back. Write to Flora Consumer Care, 250 Gunnersbury Avenue, London W4 5QB or e-mail keepintouchwithflora@unileverconsumerlink.co.uk If we all do it maybe we'll get a result. Would Delia help?

I use half and half, butter and lard, which gives both lovely taste and a good texture.
Do you use Flora for vegetarian reasons ? If not I urge you to try my method, gives a good light, flaky pastry with a good taste.
Bon Appetit !

i need white flora!

I used white flora for pure white buttercream/frosting for cupcakes, as using butter or spread has a pale yellow colour. I tried using trex, but had to add loads water to make it soft (like the consistency of white flora) so i could add the sugar to make the frosting.
very sad white flora is now unavailable :(

White Flora

I have written to Flora.

I had trouble getting what i wanted to say to them in less than 500 words - had to re-do the message 6 times, lol.

But I have put my tuppence in.

Respect! More than 500 words on White Flora.

Why didn't you write them a letter? They can ignore emails so easily; letters they have to answer.

WHITE FLORA

Hi I spoke to unilever earlier in the year about this and discovered they have discontinued the white flora due to drop in sales. I have just sent another email to them asking them to re-introduce. I have used this product since they first introduced it and was well known for good pastry making. They may reconsider if enough people contact them. Please can anybody who wants to use it reintroduced e-mail unilever. If you search for unilever flora and click on contact. You are able to send an e-mail to them.
I have tried numerous products to make pastry and it is not the same. I have tried trex, cookeen and stork(recommended by unilever) to no avail. Please help support this campaign and let consumers have what they really want.

Trex and lard

" I tried using trex, but had to add loads water"
Trex uses less water for pastry than other fats as it contains less.
If you use a good quality lard (rendered down yourself from organic pig fat) it has no smell or even taste.

Of course they can ignore a letter!

I have to be realistic here, sorry, but if they have discontinued it due to a drop in sales then it's gone. A few emails / letters / phone calls is not going to make any difference.

I shall use lard in future. I had been using cookeen since white flora disappeared from the shelves but the other week I made some pastry using lard and butter and the OH said it was probably the nicest pastry I had made for ages, he said he could eat it on it's own. He asked what had I done different. I said nothing and kept quite about using lard, he thinks I don't buy it any more. In the past it has had a lot of bad press written about it, some say it's not good for you any more. But I read a link on another website which said "eat more lard". So we will. He now knows the secret of my perfect pastry.

Flora help

Hi

Totally agree - Flora White was the only product of this type I used for cooking - nothing else tasted or performed quite the same.

Can't believe that with the interest in home baking that Unilever / Flora has discontinued this product.

I have set up a petition to try to get this product brought back:

https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/unilever-flora-bring-back-flora-white-for-making-pastry-2
