Steaming/Microwave

Hi Lindsey - not sure if this question has come up before? Can a recipe which requires steaming always be cooked in a microwave? I've successfully cooked a Syrup Sponge Pudding in a microwave but not sure if all steam recipes can be cooked in this way. Many thanks.

Steaming / Microwave

Good morning Dottie,

Generally I use the microwave to warm milk, heat vegetables when I have cooked them ahead, and now and then when I forget to get something out of the freezer I attempt to defrost it in the microwave without spoiling it.

If you have the manufactures handbook it may give some helpful advice or perhaps one of the ‘Can Anyone Help’ forum followers will be able to help.

Best wishes

Lindsey

Steaming/Microwave

Many thanks for your response Lindsey. I was really wondering if the Steam Pudding Recipes shown on this site could be cooked in a microwave. My Microwave hand book gives one or two pudding recipes which have been successful.

For Dottie May

Hello again,

I expect they will work but we haven’t done any tests. If the recipes are along the same lines as the ones you have been happy with I’m sure they will be fine.

Best wishes

Steaming in the Microwave

I find that the microwave is ideal for reheating previously cooked steamed puddings and I always heat supermarket Christmas puddings in mine. You can steam from scratch but puddings cooked this way are never as light and become very dense as they cool too.

Steaming/Microwave

Hi Dottie May

James Martin has a few recipes for steamed puddings in the microwave. I've made the sponge one a couple of times with Summer fruits, jam and lemon zest, curd. Both Yummy and so quick (4 mins). I've never cooked a proper steamed pud so not sure of the difference and I don't like xmas pud! Am sure if you google..... : )
