New Member's Thread

I've just spotted this thread (tagged on to another thread) by Midge9999 and thought I'd start a thread where any others who have recently joined could say hello to us. It always good to be able to welcome new friends to our group.

Starting with Midge...

New...ish

Hi Honey

I'm Maggie, I am newish compared to some folk.

I joined because I wanted to learn about cooking and food. I think I spent most of my twenties living on toast n fruit!

30's am 0lder and wizer,(I hope)this year we have decided to try and cook more, do some saving to travel and just eat healthier. We both have busy jobs and tended to eat out a lot because its easy in London.

We bought the tins
and with our friends we got baking, it is fun, we can get a bit competative in the kitchen!

I am really keen to learn more now, I don't have a parent or grandparent to learn from so this forum is ideal for me...

Lurking

Hello, I have been lurking for quite a while.I am afraid to say I prefer to read than contribute.

I've seen you posting Maggie, but it's really great that you've said hello and told us a little bit about yourself... I love the idea of you and your friends getting together to share your cakes. A bit of competitiveness is healthy... makes you want to be better and improve the next time. :o) I even have cake recipes that I kid myself are healthy! (Fatless, sugarless and eggless). And if you have any questions... this is the place to come... we or Lindsey may have a few pointers that might help.

Shrooms a big welcome from me... Perhaps you might feel, if we all had a chat with you that you might like to chip in occasionally. We are learning all the time and you may have something you feel would help us.

Any more out there who would like to say hello, please do. It's great to know you're out there.

It is very quiet here at the moment, I think we're all out enjoying the sunshine. I've already done a stint out there amongst the herbaceous borders and it's already too hot and I'm in for another coffee.

Why not start a new thread of your own Shrooms ? and let people join in your day......it takes everyone of us to make a community. we love to hear what people are preparing, making the most of, and giving us a bit of inspiration ... especially in this heat.

Its always lovely when we have a new members thread.

Its always daunting taking that initial step to answering a thread or creating a question.

You hope you don't appear to be a bit of a dummy, or there is the fear of your question being unanswered.

We have all been there.

I believe my first question was about a piece of Salt Beef that my husband won in a pub raffle...after being on here for probably a year before i made my first step in asking "what to do with a piece of salt beef".

No question is ever silly, someone on here has probably either been in your situation or knows someone who has been.

So please do ask, or contribute to a thread.

And remember to include location details in your profile - i am not talking your postcode, but general locality, as that can help us advise if your looking for a certain ingredient or cookware item - be it perth australia or perth scotland, or somewhere in Italy/France?germany/USA and beyond.

we are a very global friendly bunch, and we are all great friends.

Thanks Honey and all

Our Bake off's are serious :) Honey!
When the weather was really miserable and dark it cheered us all up. We bought a set of tins but shared them between us all because we did'nt own a single one! Now we've all added our own.

Since our 'new regime' and finding this site I've cooked my way through quite a few of the fish recipes and the roasts. I like Delia's recipes, they don't presume you know stuff(which we don't) and the instructions are clear and don't contain zillions of ingredients. Am still amazed and delighted when a dish turns out well.

I also did'nt realize that cooking could be relaxing....I like chopping! Its actually very social as we have both decided we like it.

Hi and welcome to the new members and the lurkers...... we know you're there!!

I'm an occasional visitor these days but seven or eight years ago this forum was the first site I visited once the computer was switched on.

Back here today as the Halloumi recipe with the lime, caper viniagrette looked worthy of printing (even though I already have the recipe book)!

Going to cook Foodie's BBQ's butterflied leg of lamb on Sunday and the Halloumi will be a great starter.

I've been a member since 2006 I think. PC probs recently which made this site so slow so I've not been active much these last 2 years or so. I have a new one so will post more.

Welcome

Can I echo the sentiments of the other posters in this thread
,Welcome to all the new people.

Like Saffy , a few years ago this was always my first port of call , for whatever reason I do not visit very much now.

Have learned so much in the last 10 plus years that I have been part of this site.

So many people on here with so much experience.

Long time lurker...

Hi to everyone on the forum,
I'm a long time lurker of around 7 years! I rejoined last year after forgetting all my details and am making a start of actually posting this time!
I did post one message way back when I first joined asking for advice on cooking a Christmas dinner for 12, but have since just sat back and read all of your great posts.

I look forward to 'talking' to all of you a lot more on here

Kirsty :)

Hello Kirsty... Welcome back. You have probably been posting on here longer than I have!! I'm probably the newbie here! I do hope you do contribute when you can. We all have something to add to this community. Even if it's not always food related every time... We get to know one another and want to help where we can.

It's a shame really, we often get an enquiry on Can Anyone Help and we find that someone will ask the question, we answer, and then that's the last we see of them, they don't interact with us any further. We're not even sure that they've returned to see our suggestions. It would be great if people would remember that we're only human and do like to know whether or not we have helped with the problem they had and that then encourages us, gives us confidence to help others again.
