Yawn! So much depends on individual quality of ingredients inc. how long and how they're kept. Delia is a fine cook who helps others to cook, not an alternative/nutritionist nutjob.

Listen, for people on special diets it is important. I am not a nutjob! If you cannot converse on here without being rude, perhsps you should go elsewhere.

Delia has a section for Special Diets; I suggest you look there.

Eileen, I don't think Gerry was saying you were a nutjob, she said Delia isn't a nutjob...

With regards to nutritional info, it would mean going through almost 2,000 recipes to work it out - a huge job which we don't have the manpower for I'm afraid, but it is easy to work it out on individual ingredients yourself.

Noreen's food info.

Well said, Noreen.

Eileen, is that how you introduce yourself in Real Life?

Nutritional info.

It's a doddle to work out and I cannot see why people who have experts to test recipes (as Delia does) don't do it. Having said that, none of them do, so don't let's be unduly harsh on Delia.

Everyone in the business uses a tome called "McCance & Widdowson’s Composition of Foods" and thankfully today it available from Government websites free of charge.

http://www.food.gov.uk/multimedia/pdfs/cofuserdoc.pdf

http://www.governmentchemist.org.uk/dm_documents/18.MarkRoeUKfoodcomp_LGC_090512_M3DZe.pdf

I believe that M&W is also available in formats for various markets - e.g. the Aussies get a listing for Vegemite while UK gets a listing for Marmite.

It takes less than five minutes to discover the correct average nutritional information for even a quite involved recipe. Since they don't do it for you you're going to have to do it for yourself, but it ain't rocket science, and not time-consuming.

Can be very important for folk who are on special diets and needs.

I hope that helps, but if you're struggling, just shout. Good luck.

Thanks for your suggestions. No I don't usually introduce myself like that but then people don't usually yawn when I ask a simple question. Thanks to people who answered kindly but am new here as you gathered and now am sorry I came. Thanks

You're welcome, Eileen. Getting out of bed on the wrong side syndrome, I think....stay around as there is a lot of good here :)

Do you or someone you cook for have a specific nutritional need? Someone can probably help.

I'd like the celeb cooks to publish nutritionals and maybe they will one day. I'd guess that Weight Watchers is a difficult one as the name is the name of a corporation, copyright, royalties... you know the score.

A load of people in my circle are doing the 5/2 diet. Personally, I watch fat. But there is more than one way.

To be fair, not many cooks or chefs publish nutritional info on their recipes. Delia has the best selection of recipes on her website , more than most, so I understand it would be a huge job to add the nutritional info .

However with websites and apps these days you could find the information yourself and I understand that's important when you are looking after someone, or you yourself have a special diet.

I use an app called My Fitness Pal . You can put the ingredients of a recipe in, and it will tot up the calories per portion plus the nutritional information .

Special Diets etc.

I was recently told about a site called Gojee.com where you can look for recipes having first entered a list of things you either dislike, are allergic to, or for any other reason you wish to exclude them, and up come recipes which do not include the items you have specified as "no go". I know this doesn't give nutritional value, but it may help anyone on a special diet or who is particularly fussy!

I have looked at the site briefly, but not put it to the test and it is American.

Website

There is a very good site called Fitday.com.

Gives nutritional breakdown of just about all foods, and you can select quantities/method of cooking etc. Really excellent information.
