Use by dates

If cans are in good condition, I think they keep for years. Think Scott of the Antarctic.

I wasn't worried about the rhubarb, but hubby was not so daring. Not going to complain.... it's my favourite pudding so I've got some for lunch today :o)

I heard that the law now requires a use-by date even if the product, such as Woucestershire Sauce, never goes off and in fact improves. Bah Humbug!

Use by....

Looks OK, smells OK then we eat it.

I do not blame the producers as litigation seems to be a constant threat these days.

Whatever happened to common sense ?!

Pah!!!!! to use by dates!!

That date is to protect the producers not the innards. They say that because the content of the can's flavour can possibly deteriorate. The producers can then say, "Well, we did warn you!"
As for Captain Scott. Their food was not only canned but frozen solid lol. A double wammy.

Use by

Is it "use by" or "expires" ? - we all have sense enough to use our judgement, but what irks me is the thought of all the senseless waste by those who do not. Also, the terrible waste of good meat in stores who do not reduce the price when it reaches its "sell by" date. I asked recently and was told that it is thrown away!!
On another occasion outside leaves were being removed from greens and I asked if I could purchase them or take a bag for my animals and was told that it was thrown and could not even be purchased. Terrible waste but what can we do?

Quite agree

Just finished up some bicarb of soda, should have been used by 2004. Still made some excellent cinder toffee.
