white lentils, help please

Haven't a clue what galangal is, or need to know what to use if you can't buy creme fraiche locally? We're sure our knowledgeable members will be able to point you in the right direction...

white lentils, help please

I used to buy these from an asian shop in Plymouth, before moving ages ago. They were white, skinless, about the size of long-grained rice and retained their shape even if cooked too long. Does anyone recognise them and know where I could buy them? Thanks.

White lentils

This won't be any help to you at all Gerry but relevant. I've been looking on line for the green Puy lentils (unable to get out) and neither Tesco nor Sainsbury's have them in their grocery on line facility. Can you believe that? I see Asda have a choice of 3 and believe Waitrose do them too. A kind lady will try and get some for me. Sorry, I can't help with the white lentils but they sound interesting. Good luck.

The white lentils are called urad dal. I haven't seen them in any supermarket just asian shops. Maybe they will be available by mail order on the internet.
Good luck.
