When to start making a Christmas Cake?

I've never made a christmas cake before and I want to try and make Delia's Classic Christmas Cake, but am unsure of when to start making it. I was planning on starting this week but with it only being the middle of October is it still too early?

I know that christmas puddings can be made very early, but is this the same for cakes as well?

Many thanks

Adam

When to start making a Christmas Cake?

I have been making this cake for a few years and I will be making mine this Saturday, normally I have already made it by now. Last year I made it in the middle of September and gave it regular feeding of brandy. You may want to refer to a previous posting dated 26th Sept. referring to timings of this cake. Good Luck.

Not too early

I have made 3 already , 3 more to make this weekend.
I feed mine every 2 weeks until the begining of December , then I get round to icing them.

making christmas cake

Hello Adam,
good luck with your cake,
little note as this is your first cake, becareful with the cooking time. Every oven is differents, so if yours gets really hot, keep on checking, don't want to over cook the cake. My last oven cooked the cake in 2hrs 30m this oven took over 3 hrs.
