Cleaning your oven

The stuff of nightmares as we all know.
I'm a "give it a quick going over if food was likely to spit" otherwise I get someone in to do it properly twice a year.
Am I the only lazy cook in this respect ?

No you aren't lazy as I'm sure you do lots of other cleaning jobs that others wouldn't.
Cleaning the oven used to be at the top of my list of most hated household jobs but not any more because I now use oven pride the one with the bag. The shelves were always the worst part of the oven to clean but with oven pride you only need to put them in the bag supplied and pour in the liquid. I leave it overnight and by morning the job is done. All the burnt on grease has dissapeared. It's magic.
Top of the list now is cleaning the venetian blinds in the kitchen. I have 4 to do and just the thought of it...
I was going to start on them this morning, got the bucket out all ready but for some reason I'm here :o)

Hum. Thinking about it I haven't cleaned my oven yet. I got it two and a half years ago. It's not particularly dirty - it probably doesn't get as much use as some people's and I rarely roast anything in it - but there's a bit of something on the bottom which I need to clean off. I have a bottle of oven mate which has been sitting next to my desk at work for months, so a good reminder.

Cleaning the cooker hood is something I dread.

I agree that Oven Pride is the best and easiest way of cleaning the oven. I decided to clean mine a few weeks ago and had a bit of a panic as none of the major supermarkets had it in stock. I used Mr. Muscle instead which wasn't too bad but as soon as I saw Oven Pride back on the shelves I bought two packs. That should last me for the next five years!!! I also defrosted the freezer the same weekend so I felt very virtuous. That doesn't happen very often either.

I too relied on Oven Pride, but unfortunately it is no longer available. I have not been able to buy it at Sainsburys or Tescoes Any ideas for an alternative.

I eventually got my Oven Pride at Waitrose, although they had an empty shelf the first time I tried to get it.

I buy mine in Aldi, it's cheaper there than other supermarkets. They don't stock it on the shelves. It's always sold as one of their weekly specials. But saying that I haven't seen it in there recently so maybe there is a shortage, hope not. I have got a couple of bottles put by so I will be ok for while.

I finally got the blinds cleaned, they took hours. Not doing them again for another year!

VE - wondered why you hadn't been around, should have remembered the trauma that comes with cleaning blinds !!

As to Oven Pride, my local Tesco sell it and you can buy it direct if all else fails.

Cleaning your oven - or not...

There are companies that will come and clean your oven for you. I have never tried them, but apparently they are really good...

Cleaning your oven

This was one of my pet hates. Last year I contacted a local company that comes to your house and they did a super job. They practically took the oven apart and took the parts out to their van to clean. It took under an hour to complete and my oven looked like new, including the glass door, knobs and even the grill pans - all sparkling and no mess in the kitchen. It cost £50 but well worth it. At least I've been able to keep the cleaning of the oven under control since then.

Brilliant service isn't it Dottie.
My range - 17 years old - looks brand spanking new once professionally cleaned. Worth every penny in my opinion !

I could scream. I have just spent 20 minutes writing about a solution to end all your oven-cleaning nightmares and it suddenly disappeared leaving me with a blank screen!
Oh I could yell!!!!! Aaahhh!!!!

Oven Pride

The reason you haven't been able to get hold of Oven Pride is because it has been recalled to check the safety cap on every bottle as a little boy drank some and ended up in intensive care :-( . Last I saw he was going to have to have a transplant. Poor little thing!

self cleaning ovens are the way forward - i wouldn't buy anything else

turn it onto CLEAN and leave for three hours

come back to a teeny pile of white dust in the bottom and a sparkling clean oven

i don't know how it does it - must be fairies

Oven Brite

For those having trouble finding Oven Pride I've just had Aldi's special buys for Thursday email and it includes Oven Brite. It's about half the price of Oven Pride and is used in the same way, also available on Amazon and gets very good reviews.
