Greek Islands

Hey Guys

Myself & my friend are thinking of visiting one of the Greek Islands in July.

First time, so any advise would be appreciated.

All we want is a quiet (ish) resort, nice beaches, restaurants, accommodation, shopping and a bit of night life?

Any suggestions?

Thanks x

GREEK ISLANDS

Hi - although it's a few years since I have been to the following resorts, I can highly recommend Kassioppi in Corfu and Afandu in Rhodes. Kass has lots of nice restaurants and bars, but is still small enough not to be roudy and has a lovely harbour. Hope this helps x

Fiskardo on Kefalonia is our favourite. More sophisticated than some places, lovely restaurants and harbour. we loved to sit with a glass of vino and watch the world go by. x

Have to agree that Kassiopi is a beautiful place. Another lovely island is Skopelos - not huge for British tourists but lots of Greek people go there for their holidays. Skopelos town is beautiful with lots of lovely restaurants. This was the first Greek island I ever visited and had changed very little when I returned 15 years later.

Greece

Hi

I went to Kassiopi last June, having been to less mainstream islands I was a little disappointed. It appeared to have the usual run of English bars that I try to avoid, and didnt think the food was as good as some islands. Probably personal preference. Certainly its not my idea of a "quiet" resort, but then depends what you are comparing it with.

I love Paros or Naxos (but you have to fly to Athens, Mykonos or Santorini. Paros being the quieter of the 2, but still with plenty of bars and restaurants in a low key way.

Samos is a bit off the tourist trail and worth a look.

Lesvos is also great. We stayed in Molyvos at the seahorse hotel and would thoroughly recommend it for location and food.

Poros (fly to Athens and get a boat) is an hour from Athens and again lovely resort with good restaurants etc.

I usually find if you cant fly direct you benefit.

But obviously everyone's opinion is different.

Enjoy...Greece is lovely!

I love the Greek Islands too

We should all go over this summer and support the Greek economy. Although, that being said, you would think it would be a little cheaper than it is in some of the islands.

I agree with Shiraz, Paros is lovely, especially if you stay in the main town or Naoussa.

Mykonos also a good place and you can partake in the legendary nightlife as little or as much as you wish.

I agree with Bolas that Santorini is absolutely breathtaking but it is twice the price of all the other islands.

I have always fancied Paxos or even Anti-Paxos for a complete 'get-away' from it all holiday.

Paxos

Paxos is on my list too! Not so many places to stay but hoping to go next year!

Its Paros this year, Naoussa is lovely, but we prefer staying in Paros Town but will go for a visit.

Some of the prices have come down, a few hotels we looked at on Poros few years ago were 80 + euros a night are now around 60 euros.

Lets hope the euro continues on the up against the £!

Shiraz - that's a shame to hear that Kassiopi has become so commercialised. It's been about ten years since we were last there.

There was an interesting article in the Daily Mail recently about unspoilt holiday destinations and Alonissos was mentioned. This is a tiny island that had only two or three tavernas 20 years ago. I definitely want to go back there for a holiday (went over on a day trip from Skopelos).

I'm a Greek firstimer going to Paxos in September. Looks lovely in the pictures and we got a surprising good deal (comparable to Turkey or Spain)for an appartment.

What a lovely offer. Paxos and anti Paxos are islands my husband and I would like to visit. How are the financial problems affecting the tourist industry?
