Hello, am off to London soon (will be staying in oxford street). can you tell me if there are any good (large) supermarkets in the area (not using a bus to get there)! Because i've been told there is only a small sainsbury on tottenham court road. Thank You

you won't find a large supermarket bang slap in the middle of London ... you're lucky to get a small Tesco, otherwise it's the small shops in the side streets that charge a fortune.

Supermarkets Oxford St

There are always Selfridges, John Lewis (Waitrose) and M & S plus I think there is a Tesco Express. Cx

Supermarkets in London

There are plenty of supermarkets near to Oxford Street. If you are staying at the Marble Arch end, there is a Sainsbury's next to the tube station, a big food hall in M&S, which is right opposite Selfridges who also have a food hall.

If you are in the Oxford Circus end there is a massive, fabulous Waitrose in John Lewis.

If you are the Tottenham Court Road end there is a smaller M&S with a food hall.

London supermarkets

Buffy - some friends of ours now live at the back of Baker Street, a stone's throw from Marylebone High Street. I don't know the name of the street, but there's a Waitrose there, if you're interested. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to have a look round, and can only presume it's not that big. However, there's a great deli (La Fromagerie) although it is expensive, and a wonderful butcher called "The Ginger Pig". OH and I were really surprised to see the Waitrose there, but it's a lovely bit of London, and there were loads of people around in the street with Waitrose shopping bags. Our friends told us they get their shopping there, too.

London

There is a Tesco in Oxford Street, think its opposite Selfridges. Did shopping there when I was in London last year.

Yep, the Waitrose on Marylebone High Street is fab and much larger than you'd expect. There is also a wonderful Farmers Market on M H St on a Sunday
