If you've discovered a wonderful eaterie in the foothills of the Himalayas or want to know the hip place to eat during your forthcoming trip to Cape Town, here's the place to post!
Have just been to the Mary Cadogan Cook School in Cognac. Truly wonderful - really achievable but inspiring recipes, all cooked in small groups of up to 6 in her cook school, which is like a domestic kitchen, so not intimidating or cheffy. I can't believe I can now make bread!!! We managed to do 8 recipes in one day. She runs residential and one-day courses, so great if you're holidaying nearby and want a day's cooking. Lots of different courses. I'll be writing about it on the site soon but just wanted to recommend it very highly -visit www.marycadogan.comBest course I've ever been on. Mary was at BBC Good Food mag for 12 years and is a natural teacher. Very relaxed and welcoming - lovely house right on the river near Angouleme, in the Charente.
I like reading Mary's blogs on the Good Food mag website. She seems so down to earth and as you say doesn't come across as "cheffy". Her style and Delia's are pretty similar - good food, clear and precise explanations and if we do as we're told we're sure to have great results!Congratulations on the bread, if feels so good when you do something for the first time and it works doesn't it?
Oh Jo you lucky thing it sounds wonderful, I'd love to try that sometime.
Mary and her husband Mick run a fantastic cook school. I'm definitely going to book up for next year soon, as the queue for places will be long. I've been watching her on Britian's Best Dish and her comments, praise and or criticism are the best of all three critics. She realy does understand and love food.
I totally agree Deirdre. Mary and Mick are wonderful, relaxed hosts and you feel that you are in the hands of people who really love and understand food. It's the first time I've ever been on a course and then come home and made all the recipes... only baked doughnuts and cranberry and white chocolate panettone to go! The baked doughnuts were so clever... really reduces the fat content and were filled with mincemeat for a Christmassy touch. Am going to be writing about the course in more depth on the site soon!
Oh, don't start, per-lease. I am sooo jealous. I would really love to do this one day .... I shall just have to save up my pennies and my annual leave from work ..... It sounds absolutely terrific!
