Lamb Moussaka

Hi,

With my wife we're planning to visit Greece at the end of this month, I've been hearing that "Lamb Moussaka" is one of the best Greek dishes though I've never tasted it before. I would like to hear your opinion about it, anyone have any recommendations for the best places, restaurants to go?

Greece

Huge country - where are you going? Mainland, or one of the islands?

Moussaka reminds me a bit of cottage pie, but think with more tomatoes & herbs, & swapping the mashed spuds for aubergines & a bechamel sauce. My only issue with the moussaka when I had it there (on Corfu & Skopelos) was that the locals prefer their food served tepid rather than hot. And I like mine piping hot! Aside from that, if you pick places to eat that are full of locals rather than tourists you often fare better (IMHO).

Naxos

We've always dreamed to visit Naxos City, we've been hearing that they have beautiful gateway and very nice beach. Thanks for sharing experiences Queen of Puds ! In fact, I love everything with beef but I'm a bit hesitating since my wife followed a diet, don't know much if she will be tempted.

Partora

I've got friends who visited Naxos last year, they were totally impressed by the archaeological site of Partora. They stayed at Antonia Hotel, everything was perfect they said.

Lamb Moussaka recipe

Hi Damon,

Welcome to delia's community!
I made researches and found this one, Aubergines stuffed with Moussaka , here is the link : http://www.deliaonline.com/recipes/cuisine/mediterranean/greek/aubergines-stuffed-with-moussaka.html

Food mail order is also advantageous if you want to give a first try, for your wife to get a break out of the kitchen too
