My OH would like to holiday in or near Venice probably in June. Has anyone any tips for me. I'm not sure if a hotel a little way out coupled with a couple of days actually in Venice or several days just in Venice would be best. Also escorted or independant? We have only been there before on a day trip from Garda, while on a Great Rail holiday, so after a guided walk round we only really had time for a meal. Thanks in advance=looking forward to your ideas.

Pauline.

I envy you your trip Pauline. I spent a day there whilst staying in Como. My advice would be to stay outside the city. It's very expensive in Venice as are the meals.

Pauline, We're staying in Venice in June this year and were recommended this hotel,Ca'del Campo, just behind St Mark's Sq. A good advantage is that it is a direct route from the boats with no bridges to cross.Having stayed outside the city previously, I think you are much better off staying inside. All Italian hotels are expensive and if you don't eat in the large touristy areas, you can find cheaper restaurants.http://www.cadelcampo.it/

I have stayed in Venice, for our Ruby Anniversary actually, and would love to go there again! Like Daisychain, I would advise staying in Venice itself, what you save on hotels you would be paying in transport costs I would imagine. The hotel we stayed in was just by the Rialto Bridge, in fact I think it was called the Rialto Hotel, it is plainly seen whenever there are scenes of Venice depicted on TV, as it is painted red and it is so near the Bridge which is always shown. It was very reasonably priced, we had B&B, and we ate at reasonbly priced places for other meals which you can find quite easily. Have a lovely time, I'm sure you will!

Hi Pauline,

I hope its not yet too late to post this, however I would like to share this to everyone who will be traveling Venice soon.

Aside from the regular sight seeing like taking a tour in Grand Canal or visiting Venetian Art Museum in Venice it could get quite tiring after a while. A friend suggested me to try out a dining with BonAppetour. They have a website where travelers can book meals with locals who invite travelers for a meal at their home. I loved it! It was fun, relaxed and a perfect thing to do in Venice. And also, this is also a good way to meet new friends and at the same time knowing their cultures.

Venice I absolutely adore it!
