Has anybody been and can they please recommend any good value-for-money hotels on the eastern side?
Hi EG, OH and I fell in love on Crete. Ahhhhh. Magical place. We stayed just outside Ag Nic. Can't quite remeber the name of the village. Elounda is quite lovely. We ahve some friends who stay there every year. Do you want self catering, fully inclusive?

Hi Biggs - Agree that Ag Nic looks nice. The travel agent came up with a good deal at Gouves - do you know it? We're looking for half board hotels. Saw a fabulous hotel at Elounda but very very expensive!!!
We had a lovely summer holiday a couple of years ago at the St Nicholas Bay hotel near Ag Nic.....I can recommend a company called Planet Holidays, who we had never heard of and turned out to be brilliant. They have great local knowledge and you can ring them up and tell them the kind of holiday you want, they all know the hotels so can find something to suit. On the day we came back our flight was at about 4pm, and we were due to leave the hotel at about 1 o'clock. At 11am we got a call from the Rep who told us our flight was going to be delayed and to stay at the hotel rather than hang around the airport. We stayed by the pool for another couple of hours. They rang us again to let us know when the plane to take us back had left London, and to go to the airport. It was so much better than sitting in a departure lounge!
there is an amazing hotel there with your swimming pool per apartment. Would love to stay there. In my dreams :0)Don't know Gouves, but have sent you a mail.Noreen, that agent sounds wonderful. Much better for everybody not to go to the airport early, especially when the agents know there is a delay.

Oops, lost earlier reply.You will love Crete EG. Lots of archaeological sites, Knossos, Aghia Triada, Phaistos. Nice beaches, lovely food, lovely people. Enjoy.
