Knives

I have a 5 knife Judge Sabatier knife block and my favourite - the chef's knife has parted company from the handle rendering is useless. My OH had a go with the superglue but put the knife back in the dishwasher so it happened again!I bought it in BHS a couple of years ago. Is there anywhere that would repair this kind of thing? I really do not want to throw it away.
The handle is the soft grip type so I guess it cannot be fixed on with rivets. Any suggestions?

Can't help with your query. I binned my sabatier knife block after 2 of the knives suddenly snapped when I was using them. Once you could write off as a fluke, but twice? V dangerous, I narrowly missed a nasty cut. Both times I was cutting veg, nothing hard, and the blade just shattered.

I wouldn't bother fixing it.

Thanks, ES. I am fast coming to that conclusion but you know how it is when you get used to one particular knife!

Certainly avoid the dishwasher if you repair anything with Superglue.

Knife repairs

Superglues all seem to be water soluble - I would use a two-part epoxy and have had success over the years with a variety of repairs.

"Sabatier" knives are made by a variety of factories - I don't know the business relationship - quality varies a lot - I replaced all my old kit six years ago with a set of Sabatier Deglon - pretty good vfm - but then I know how to sharpen knives properly. PaulW

Maybe you should take the knife back and ask for a replacement. Should have lasted more than a couple of years. It's worth a try.

Slimmerjude - I am worried you might cut yourself on a superglued knife!

I know they are not Sabatier, but why don't you have a look in the Shop at this Henckels set. They are a really good price, with a £90 saving. Might be worth a try?

No help here either I'm afraid - just sympathy !
Bought my Sabatiers decades ago, before manufactured by all and sundry and still my favourites.

Who puts cooks knives in a dishwasher ?! A definite no no in my view - may as well bung in your jewellery !

The Henkl set of knives looks very tempting. I like the fact that there is a slot for the sharpening tool and for the scissors. I shall have to go and count the pennies!
Thank you all for your comments.
