Microwave Oven

My very reliable old Sharp Microwave Oven needs replacing. So many to chose from these days. Could do with some recommendations please. Many thanks.

It depends on how much you use them but I wouldn't buy one that does more than I need it to. The simpler the better. I've got a micro/oven combination Panasonic one but only ever use it for microwaving. However, still have a big old 27 year old Sharp Carousel which is also a conventional oven - I use it just as an small oven and would hate to be without as it's brilliant for baking. Also take into consideration how easy it is to wipe clean on the inside.

mine is as basic as they come. was £12-£15 from argos (homeworks) 2 dials, mins and heat setting including a defrost option. its very small too, but is perfect for what i need it for.

I've got a cheap one from Morrisons, no singing or dancing, bells or whistles but it's perfect for my needs. Simple timer and power settings and a quick 30 second blast. My advice, don't spend money on extras and gimmicks that you may not need, want or indeed ever use!!!

Microwaves.

Do you really need one, Dottie?

I don't have one, refuse to give one house room.

I find a Micro very useful James. OH isn't keen on veg. so rather than put a pan on the cooker ring I find it easier to use the Micro to steam some for myself. Also I use it to make sponge puddings, scrambled eggs, jacket pots plus other things.

Microwave Oven

I have a Panasonic combination oven Dottie - I'm really pleased with it. I use it for veggies, defrosting, sponges, baked potatoes, roasting chicken (in a roaster bag) and general reheating. My model is about 3 years old now, but Panasonic consistently have good reviews.

Before I saw your comments Saffy we bought a Hitachi Combination (900w). As yet, have only used it as a Microwave and appears fine. I was a little disappointed to see there wasn't a recipe book with it like when we bought the Sharp micro (600w). Does anyone know if I can use the Sharp recipes but decrease timing say by 1 minute

If you Google you will find a site that has all the manuals for every kind of appliance and you can read or download specific pages as you require them.
