Bag sealer

Hello,
Can anyone tell me where I can get a bag sealer - just the home use type not big expensive catering one?
Thankyou in anticipation

re:bag sealer

Thanks for that info. I am now getting one of those but I meant a small contraption that seals the neck of the poly bag by sticking 2 pieces of tape together.

Bags

Had you thought of using zip-lock bags? Supermarkets sell them in various sizes. Almost close the plastic zip, squash out the air and close the zip completely. They are fine for the freezer.

bag sealer/vac sealers

I got one of those sticky tape bag sealers a few years ago in Lidl. I haven't seen them since.

I was wary of vac sealers. Lakeland stopped selling them a few years ago. I asked them why and they said they were always being returned. I was disappointed as I'd wanted one. Perhaps they have found a better one if they stock them again. It's good to hear how useful they are.

Vac Sealer

Waste of money.

They do nothing that proper fridge rotation does not do. I dont want to keep a lettuce for 14 days, just buy it and eat it....... Who the hell keeps a chicken in the freezer for 2 years?????????????????

Pointless. Everyone goes shopping at least every two years.

Yes, lakeland stopped them, its their most returned item after the TefalActifry, which they also stopped selling. More pointless rubbish.....

We do not need pointless gadgets like this!!!!

vac sealers

I think you are right, James! I am managing fine without it.

To be fair, foods frozen in vacuum packaging retain their quality better than if air is able to get to then (ie "freezer burn"). But I get your point about fortnight old lettuces although as I am a singleton most of the time a lettuce can end up in the recycling bin.

Bolas

"we have a large cutlery canteen of silver, it is used only a few times a year and because it tarnishes quickly my wife has to spend hours cleaning it before a meal, she cleaned and vac packed it yesterday, thanks mate."

Bolas - just wondered why it was your wife who always had to spend hours cleaning the silver?!!! Didn't think that job required XX chromosomes!!!

Well, Bolas, that sounds fair enough, then. Hope her treatment improves the situation for her and doesn't make her feel too grumpy!!

Does everyone over there still say "hoovering" ?
Wonder how many people actually use a Hoover these days? And how many other brand names have been adopted into the English language as verbs?

Hoovering

Just this minute my husband has put his head round the door and said he is going to get on with some 'hoovering'. I am always searching for a 'biro' and when our carpets need a deeper cleaning, nowadays we 'vax' them!

Silver cleaning

My husband always cleans our silver, does a much better job of it than I could. He actually enjoys it!

Silver

Not sure if this will be any help to all who have silver cutlery.
Here goes anyway !
Line a bowl with aluminium foil add cutlery a tblsp. of Bicarb.and fill with warm water. Leave until fizzing stops. May need to repeat if really dirty.
Advantage being nothing abrasive and no elbow grease required !

cleaning silver

Sandra, you genius. I have been wasting money on those silver cleaning sachets which do exactly the same thing. Bicarb and foil from now on :)

There is nothing pointless about a bag sealer, i use an industrial type vacuumn sealer (Ebay £60)and as i buy large quanties of say stewing steak at the local farmers markets i have to freeze it, and if i use the vacuumn sealerthe meat last a lot longer in the freezer i.e. NO FREEZER BURN, so obviosly the same applies for chicken breasts etc............I also make large quantities of Chili and Bolagnaise for both me my partner and friends, this allows me to freeze them and then pass them to those who would like them............... I have had mine for about 2 years and it is brilliant........buy in bulk, save money and dont through away so lest waste.............
