Toasters

Has anyone ever had a toaster that is easy to keep clean? I resort to using my pastry brush to clean crevices round the top but even though there's a pull-out crumb tray I can never get rid of the burnt looking crumbs that drop down inside. Maybe I'm just a fusspot. Or perhaps it's time to buy a new toaster.

Next to impossible to do. Why worry most of it just gets burnt away/sterilised.
Got to be honest though, I find a real problem with the cheese and beans but that's nothing compared to fried egg. Yuk, Yuk, Yuk!!!!

Haha - maybe you need to try those toaster bags from Lakeland. At least they confine the contents of your sandwich & I clean mine in the dishwasher.

i unplug mine, up-end it and shake it over the sink! Gets most of the crumbs out

crumb tray is pretty useless. I also unplug it and turn it upside down, give a good shake, and keep doing that so all the burnt crumbs dislodge - over your worktop.

Yeah, I shake mine out, too, but when I look down inside, it looks like burnt crumbs stuck to the bottom. Woe is me!

I was quite taken with it at first, not that I'd spend that much on a toaster, and then I remembered this thread!

Gosh, these are amazing! Such fun! One thing I like about my current toaster is that it has a little wire platform thingy you can lever up to toast things like hot cross buns - really useful. But I find it astonishing that those Dualit toasters cost way over £100. What makes them so expensive?

Toasters.

I know, I'd not pay that for a toaster to be honest!

In fact, if our toaster broke tomorrow, Im not that sure I'd replace it anyway.

Dualit toaster

I got bought one of these as a present and have had it over 10 years and although it has lasted a long time it is awful! It toasts really unevenly and the element in the first slot hardly browns the toast at all and the rest is really brown. (dark brown one side nearly white the other)I've replaced the element and it's still the same.
The cheap one we had before that was fine.
Can't really get rid of it because as well as the fact it was a pressie it seems too expensive an item to get rid of.x

I have only one thing to say in respect of toast and that is that Aga toast rules - definitely the best.

Apart from that, I received the JL e-mail showing the new Magimix see-thru toaster which I thought looked great but, like James, I thought 'how on earth can you keep it clean?'

Loved the design of the 'printer' toaster and it seems sensible. Rather like those conveyor belt toasters one sees in hotels. Shame they are not in production yet.
