Part of the seal on the lid of my blender has broken off. I've been reading Delia's comments about blenders and since I only use it for soups I'm wondering whether I should replace it with a stick blender, which I've never had - or buy another freestanding one. I'd really appreciate your comments on types and brands. T.I.A.
I rarely use my blender now for soup, unless it has to be extra smooth. The stick blender is wonderful! Quick, works well, and you can do it straight in the saucepan, so less washing up. As they are fairly inexpensive now, I'd get one, as you can use it for sauces, soups, custards, all sorts.
Thanks, Fifi. I've been Googling for info on stick blenders and found differences in the motor power eg. 250W, 400W, 600W. I guess the more power the better - or perhaps it just takes longer with a 250W model.
I use mine alot for soup, but I like my soup to be totally smooth. Could not get on with the stick blender but do appreciate most people do! My soup went everywhere when I used it and I could not get the soup smooth enough for my liking. Funnily enough though, my mum uses hers alot and it broke down, so I gave her mine, so it didn't go to waste after all.x
Thanks, James. Well, I've bought one - decided on a stick blender. Got a Marco Pierre White/Russell Hobbs 650W one in st/steel & black. On sale in Debenhams, down from £40 to £20 and I used a £14 voucher so it cost me six quid - LOL! If I can't get on with it, I'll give it to one of my daughters. Can't wait to play with it tomorrow!
I load everything into the jug blender including the stock or stock cube and water which means I just whizz it all instead of standing there chopping everything and crying buckets. After cooking I use the stick blender very gingerly to smooth out any lumps.Whichever blender/s you use it's important not to over-blend.I sympathise with James about the stick blender - I find the wire getting in the way and end up having a fight with it.
