What's happened to baking parchment?

Keen to know which brand to buy? Or want to share a great purchase with the rest of us? This is the place to do it...

What's happened to baking parchment?

My wife asked me to buy some, so I looked online on Waitrose and Ocado and both have a long litany of people complaining about a new substitute parchment that sticks to baking and generally is unsatisfactory.

So I went to our local Sainsburys and our local Morrisons and both only had very, very expensive parchment lined aluminium foil.

Today a friend went to a local Lakeland, normally a great place for such items and they only had the foil lined variety.

So why has proper baking parchment disappeared from the shelves of Britain? Why was it not made public that this very useful product was disappearing and can somebody recommend a source for the real stuff?

You can buy it online at amazon and Lakeland. Follow the links below.
Hope this helps.

Thanks very much for the response to my query.

I'm a bit suspicious about the Amazon advertised parchment as it looks white in the picture and it's white parchment that people are complaining about on Waitrose and Ocado websites. I'll reserve judgement on Lakeland until I can see the actual stuff inside the packet.

I'm still left wondering why the normal parchment that's been around for donkeys years has become so hard to find?

I too have found that the baking paper that I have been buying is not as good as it used to be. It seems to have stopped coming away from the cakes as cleanly as it once did and you wouldn't think to look at it that anything has changed.
So when I saw in Aldi recently that they now sold it I bought a roll. I haven't tried it yet as I'm still using the other one but I've just opened the packet and it's not white but a brown colour and it looks a lot more shiny so hopefully it will come away from the food better. And it was probably a lot cheaper than my old make. Are you anywhere near an Aldi?

Aldi - now there's a thought. Thanks for the tip, I'll give them a try.

Hi again, I have now used the Aldi greaseproof & baking paper 10 metres for 99p on a victoria sandwich cake it peeled off the cake with no problem. I've already bought another roll.

Sounds good, I shall have to get some from Aldi when I pop in to get some dishwasher tablets later this week.

I had some delivered at the weekend with my latest delivery from Lakeland. I do have some with foil backing but have only used it a couple of times. I always buy the sheets which I find very useful as I can just pull one sheet off at a time.
