Burnt pans

I have not had good experiences with non-stick cooking-ware, and am now experimenting with stainless steel, which I line with a suitably-shaped piece of silicone sheet.

The sheet is utterly wonderful from a cooking point of view, but fat from what is being cooked splashes the inside of the pan, coating it with a thin, dark brown veneer that resists even the most vigorous attempts to remove it.

The Internet is full of ladies (mostly American) insisting that bicarbonate of soda, hydrogen peroxide, Coca Cola, vinegar, Alka-Seltzer, &c. is a magic ingredient, which will float the veneer free, without any effort on the part of the human culprit, but I have not so far found any of those much help, save possibly for the following.

I have found that boiling a little washing-up liquid with quite a lot of bicarbonate of soda in the pan does improve it, but it certainly does not have any instant or effort-free result.

What would YOU suggest ?

Cleaning pans

Hello Paieye, I have heard that if you soak the pots and pans in hot water with a dishwasher tablet dissolved in it, overnight, it will lift most - if not all - stains. It certainly isn't an instant fix, but I have heard that it does work.

Burnt pans

For some things a paste of biological washing powder works.

Thank you both, I have tried that, and it certainly helps, but not dramatically so.

You could try Bar Keepers Friend, alternatively, you could line the full pan with liners.

Rescue for Burnt Pans

Have you tried either Fairy or Cif Spray oven cleaner? I use it for everything that is "yukky" after cooking including on my tiles around the cooker - they come up a treat!
