Stick Blenders

Keen to know which brand to buy? Or want to share a great purchase with the rest of us? This is the place to do it...

I am looking to buy a stick blender for soups and need advice on which one to get. Can you recommend a make/model. What is your experience of using one?
Thanks.

Think they probably vary little?

I have 2 - one is an 'all-in-one' model i.e. you cannot immerse it, & the other is a Magimix with a detachable blade end that can be immersed & can go in the dishwasher. The all-in-one is great for small portions of e.g. coulis, but I use the big one for soups etc.

These days you can get sticks with attachments for chopping, which look fab - but I do like my Magimix.

I've got a Bamix which I love. Bit more expensive than others but for me worth it. It's "all in one"so you just run it under the tap to clean but that's no problem. Have had Braun before and that was fine too and much cheaper. The stick bit detached from that one so you could immerse it in water to clean. I suppose it all comes down to how much you want to spend in the end.

If it's just for soups then a simple, hopefully cheaper one should do the trick.
I've got a Braun with a bowl and chopper attachment which I like for chopping small things e.g. an onion. The stick part detaches and I find it makes it much easier - and safer - to wash., than the cheaper one I had before.

Never had a Bamix - too expensive. I'd certainly recommend Braun, as Tubs said.

I have a Bamix with attachments which I use almost daily. Now only two of us so find it really useful rather than heaving out the processor.
That said if you only want one for soup I wouldn't go to the expense.
Horses for courses I would say.

Funnily enough I managed to splatter all of me (only 5 ft I know) & half the kitchen when I used my processor bowl, but never had a problem with the stick.

I think I am more careful when I have no 'lid' if you know what I mean.

What I don't know though is how soup ended up on the back of my jumper when I was facing the damn thing the whole time.
