what size dutch oven/casserole?

I am interested in LC cookware but not sure about sizes and models: If making Coq au Vin is a 5 liter or 7 liter Dutch oven better?LC doesn't seem to make 6L. If making Shepherd's Pie is a shallow casserole pan good? If so what capacity, say 3 liters? I usually cook for 2 or 3 but want the option for larger groups too. :) Thanks very much! (PS I was living in Asia a long time and only used woks so I am a bit clueless!)

Casserole dishes

I would suggest you go into a kitchen shop and look at the casseroles on offer. IMO 5litre is pretty big and 7litre is vast unless you are cooking for large parties. But then I can't say I have ever accurately measured the volume of my casseroles; I do it by eye.

And yes, shallow is best for potato-topped dishes so you get lots of crispy topping.

Well, LC look good but remember that when full they weigh an absolute ton. My pressure cooker is 7 litre but it only sits on the hob. I'd never carry it full of hot liquid. Good luck!

LC casseroles

They do lovely stainless steel casseroles. I can't use the traditional ones, too heavy. For ages I've been trying to justify buying the ss oven ones without long handles, but I've too much stuff already.

LC Dishes.

I think the warning about them being heavy is a very valid one. I can barely pick one up when empty let alone full.

They are also ugly as sin IMO.

I use a porcaline one for the oven, if anything needs browning first (I don't tend to do this much though!) then I do it in a frying pan on the hob first.
