Oven/Meat Thermometers

which is best? an oven one or one you stab your meat with?

I am struggling with my new oven temp controller, and getting a thermometer has been suggested.

But which version? and any brand to go for/avoid.

Oven Thermometers - any ideas?

"But which version? and any brand to go for/avoid."

I'd also be interested in this if anyone has an opinion. Are there any noted for accuracy? Or value for money? Or danger?

Heston B likes a gadget or so, has anyone spotted his preferred brand?

Oven/Meat Thermometers

I bought one from Lakeland last year, the type that hooks on an oven rack as I thought maybe my Neff Circotherm oven might not be accurate in its age-ing years! I use 160C on the oven control for most things but the thermometer always shows less - around 150. If I increase to 180 on the oven, the therm shows 160-170 - - - and so on.
So I'm confused (well, that might not be new!) so maybe I need to get a different therm to compare - but I probably won't bother.

Noreen, can you help?

Looks like we need an oven thermometer expert. Noreen, the shop sells 100 thermometers, can you help?

By the way I think we should ask for the shop to be renamed the Deliary.

Vote here:
Yes, I'd like deals from the Deliary.
No, I have a hangover.

Oven thermometers

Sam, I have an 'iffy' oven and use a thermometer inside. I also have a digital thermometer I bought on Amazon (sorry, Nor) from ETI Ltd which I tested in boiling water and is very accurate. I use it to check meat joints when the calculated time is up. I used to have one which I stuck in the joint at the beginning and watched it until it reached the right temperature on the scale and that was fine too.

Horses for courses, I'd say.

Oven/meat thermometers

I'm in browsing mode today and haven't been on the site for ages, so apologies for late input.

I 'invested' in a Thermoworks instant read digital thermometer which i use for all meat cooking as well as preserves (and checking air temperatures - it is THAT sensitive). Not cheap, but i've never looked back.

Thermometers

Sam, I've never used an oven thermometer. I have a good oven (Neff) and it's temperature reads well. I do, however, use a meat thermometer (the 2-pronged fork type). I need to know the temp. inside the meat, not the outside.

You are replying to a question Sam asked in April.

I would suspect she is probably sorted by now...............
