Just read on the news,
that spiders have been breeding like crazy all summer due to the damp weather.

Time to seal up those windows

Spider Invasion

I waged war with them only a few days ago. I'd been away for 2 weeks and the house looked like something from the opening scenes of Great Expectations!

Try some RAID in the red tin Sue, just spray round windows and door steps ....really keeps them away !!

I like spiders

Fewer of them here than usual; wish they'd eat the flies.

Spiders

I read a couple of years ago that spiders hate the smell ofhorse chestnuts/conkers and to put one in the corners of the rooms. It may have been that there were few spiders around but I've never seen one in the house since.

My grandson and I found loads of conkers yeterday after the strong winds overnight.

I like spiders, found one in the kitchen sink, had to remove it before I could fill the kettle.
They are a good excuse not to do any dusting, if any is needed. I don't like breaking their webs.

" I don't like breaking their webs."
Neither would I demolish their little homes; they don't take up much room on the planet.

*shudder* can't have them in the house - wouldn't get a wink of sleep....sorry but they end up in the vacuum in my house

I agree with Gerry that spiders have a right to their lives and I would not kill them. Anway, I could never get near enough to them to kill them even if I wanted to. I would much rather they lived their lives well away from me and I will be desparately looking for some conkers!!

I love spiders, but then again we don't have any poisonous ones here in the UK.... do we??!!!

I'm sure I'd have a slightly less laid back approach somewhere like Australia.

Well ES, we do have some poisonous ones - the red-back is fairly common here and I always kill them. But we also have a lot of harmless ones and I kill them in the house and remove the webs - don't like them in my space!!

ExpatB - there are Black Widows over here too, but more in NSW and other places. I've only seen pictures of them and that's fine by me!!

British spiders for ES

"I love spiders, but then again we don't have any poisonous ones here in the UK.... do we??!!!"
I remember that we have a couple of poisonous ones and they're both tiny. So don't bother freaking out at those plate-sized ones with hairy legs!

Thanks - I'll steer clear of the tiddlers then! Big hairy (harmless) spiders are cute, and fascinating to watch.

Spiders

We usually get them in our house around now. I just hate them - sometimes in the evening they come scuttling into the room. I lift up my legs and just freeze until OH is able to give the spider a whack. By the way, I've read that the use of conkers to stop them coming into the house is a myth. I also can't stand seeing land crabs running along a beach on TV as they also remind me of spiders. Ugh...
