Muck Spreading YUK !!!

I know it has to be done, but the smell outside just now is AWFUL !!
So strong it is giving me a headache, got joss sticks burning indoors but it is still permeating.
Farmer has just arrived to plough it in so hopefully won't seem too bad in a bit.

YUK!!!!

Oh, poor you it can't be nice :0(

My biggest problem today is seed heads billowing around and covering the pond surface too. I had thought it was dandelions but have just discovered it is the seed heads from the catkins on the grey sallow (willow). Now I undestand how we have so many of these trees in the garden. I've never seen such fluffy heads before, the grass around these trees is now quite white instead of green. I hope the birds eat most of them :0)

Muck spreading YUK

Hi Yummy,
it is so horrible, we had it all last week, couldn't even sit in the garden it was so bad.

We have also had tractors going up & down the road with huge containers of sh.t

The joy of living in the country side.

I got a tip from my OH a while ago about putting a drop of two of Tea Tree oil or Vicks on your top lip just below the nose to block out any other smells. (He used to work as a care assistant). It worked for me, although my situation was different to yours (you really dont want to know!)

Hope this helps

Muck Spreading

I don't dislike the smell of good old cow/horse manure - it's the chicken stuff I hate - should be banned. Apart from that, give me the countryside every time. Dottie Mayx

Muck spreading

I'm very odd, well, you all know that but love the smell !
Means new produce is on it's way and as Dad would say "Clears out the tubes a treat".

Trouble with Muck

Can I just say that I am not opposed to good old Horse Manure....quite like the warm stable smell of horses etc.
However, well the problem with this lot anyway, is it is "French" and they spread a lot of "other" types of muck too !! Chicken, Turkey, Cow, and even in some cases the contents of Fosse Septiques !!!
So not quite as fragrant as some muck spreadings.
Still got over the smell now as the farmer came and ploughed it in more or less straight after it had been spread......one thing about the French, they don't hang about :0)

Flies

Hate them with a vengeance !!
Friend gave me an electric fly swat when they returned to the UK.... absolutely FAB.

With all the poo that has been spread there are millions, this gadget is much better than a conventional fly swat !

Flies

I bought one of those battery operated fly swots Yummy and they are excellent but we have small panes of glass in our windows, either 8 or 12 to a window and you can't use them on those because the panes are smaller than the actual swot. Great fun swotting them in mid flight though!!

Hi Yummy,
it is not just the french, once when we used to live in suffolk i had to pass the same field everyday going to work. Realy not sure what this farmer spread on his field but it smelt really bad of vomit.
