Copper and Slugs

I have some of the copper tape to put round pots etc. to keep slugs at bay. Now I have seen in some leaflets a woven copper mat that you can plant through to do the same job, but which stays in place; It seems to me to be very similar to copper pot scourers, so I got some and, come next spring, will start the seeds off in peat plugs - cut a slit in the scourer - and plant the plug through the slit. It should work, and give the slugs a little jolt of electricity.
Will let you know if it works.

Copper and Slugs

Kayb, I was interested in your comment about woven copper mats. I haven't heard about those. I have 6 pots of different types of Hostas which used to get eaten by slugs until I bought some copper tape and put it around the pots. This year not one plant has been nibbled by slugs so it has worked so will look forward to hearing if the mats also work.

Copper and Slugs

Early in the summer I bought some copper tape to protect two tubs of hostas that I brought from my mum's garden. Never got around to doing it but this year we've had no slugs at all. If I had used it, I'd have thought it was the tape - weird!
