Help my courgettes are dropping off

My courgettes are getting to about 3 inches long then they stop growing and then start to deteriorate and then drop off. What am I doing wrong please?

Dropping Courgettes

might be due to overwatering, perhaps. I was overwatering ours earlier in the year and they picked up very well once I stopped. I was surprised to learn they could be over watered.

Curcubit in a bit

I have been having the same problem with my pumpkin... the fruit get to the size of a golf ball and then rot and fall off... Strangely my courgettes are doing fine in the same patch.. Perhaps they are just very depressed and can't face the thought of being eaten!
Have searched in vain on the gardening sites - over watering seems a possibility given the recent weather but why one and not the other???

Courgettes Pumpkins

Hi, just been speaking with OH, he who is the fount of all courgette and pumpkin knowledge in this household; first year of growing pumpkins :0)

Pumpkis need a lot of water as do melons. This year we have successfully, nearly, grown melons under the squash. Got about 15 melons growing. Last year the plants got frazzled in the sun.

Krish, OH says if your pumpkins are dropping off it's because of lack of water but if they are rotting off, then it is too much water.

Next year we will keep our courgettes well seperated from the things that need a lot of water. We learn as we go along, I hope.......

Courgettes dropping off

Thanks everybody. I think it is overwatering as I thought they needed a lot. When I went on holiday and didn't water them for a week one of them had grown to the size of a marrow! Cx

Courgettes

Campbett, you probably know this already, but I`m wondering if these are the small ones which haven`t been pollinated and don`t grow.

Our courgettes have either come to the end of the growing season or just are resting, but there haven`t been any in a couple of weeks.
